PETER STRAUB AND STEPHEN KING'S 'THE TALISMAN' TO RECEIVE ADAPTATION FROM AMBLIN ENTERTAINMENT • DIS/MEMBER

Peter Straub and Stephen King’s The Talisman is a weird one. Even for long-time Constant Readers. It’s so weird that Hollywood has tried and failed no less than one billion times (don’t Google that) to bring it to the big screen. But now, it seems they may have finally cracked it!

Birth. Movies. Death, along with Collider, are reporting that Amblin Entertainment is ramping up a feature film adaptation of the dimension-hopping horror yarn, spearheaded by Handmaid’s Tale director Mike Barker and working from a script by Chris Sparling. He who graced us with the supremely uncomfortable Buried.

The Talisman follows the exploits of young Jack Sawyer. Jack has the ability to jump into alternate dimensions, namely a terrifying shadow-world of our own known as The Territories. In order to save his dying mother in the real world, he embarks on a Tolkien-esque quest through the Territories, encountering all manner of mind fuckery and monsters.

This one is often also considered a “cornerstone” book of King’s expansive Dark Tower mythos (which is what led 13-Year-Old Justin to the Territories all those years ago).
