Growing up, you were either a Labyrinth Kid or a Dark Crystal Kid. Though the musical lover in me appreciates the songs of the former, I was very much in the latter camp.
So it is with great pride and welling personal emotions that I report that Netflix has revealed that the entire 10-episode prequel series will debut on August 30th of this very year. See? It’s not all bad.
Better still, they provided us with all sorts of sumptuous images from the upcoming series, including our first major looks at Skeksis antagonists The Scientist and The Scroll-Keeper, who looks like a fucking blast (literally).
The Louis Leterrier-produced series is also coming armed to the teeth with voice talent. Actors like *inhales huge breath* Taron Egerton, Ana-Taylor Joy, Helena Bonham Carter, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Shazad Latif (Chief Insha’s Starfleet Boyfriend), Alicia Vikander, Mark Strong, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. And those are just the damn Gelflings!
On the Skeksis and Mystics side, we have *takes another huge, sucking breath* Jason Issacs, Andy freaking SANDBERG, Simon Pegg, Mark Hamill, Keegan-Michael Key, and Harvey goddamn Fierstein just to name a FEW.
Adding that perfect mix of Henson ensemble work, additional characters will be voiced by their puppeteers. You can head to www.netflix.com/thedarkcrystal to see more of these amazing photos and to get a reminder to join us all here in a binge session once it drops in August.
In case you didn’t know, Age of Resistance is set 200 years before the original movie. Following three young Gelflings that stumble upon the secret of the Skeksis rule, Age of Resistance looks to tell the tale of what happened before Thra was completely corrupted. No word yet on Fitzgig’s return.
You can tell WE are jazzed about this, but are you?! Do you love or hate that this is a prequel? Also, did anyone else read the BOOM! Studios sequel series to the original movie? I feel like we don’t talk about that enough. Let us know in the comments below.
